Singer-songwriter Elliot Porter is due to release his brand new Folk single ‘Normal People’, out on 13 August 2021. Making the most of the year-long lockdown, the London-based artist created the online platform ‘Isolation Gigs’ to help musicians connect during the troubled time. Collaborating with his sister, singer of the electro swing band Elle and the Pocket Belles, and 18 other songwriters and performers online, he led the production of the widely acclaimed NHS Charity cover single ‘Be More Kind’. The project raised over £2000 for the NHS and gained the attention and praise of Frank Turner himself, as well as BBC Radio London’s Gaby Roslin, along with a documentary currently in preparation. Elliot Porter has previously seen the support of Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2, and has supported the likes of Toploader, Alabama 3 and The Bluetones.

A gentle blend of Folk sensibilities and Rock influences, ‘Normal People’ is inspired by the renowned book and BBC TV drama of the same name, with the visuals, colours and feelings intertwined in the recording process of the track, reflecting on a time of break-up, mass isolation and the struggles people went through last year. For Porter, normal people are all of us sharing the same emotions, facing the same challenges every day, and looking deeply into ourselves. Building on gentle piano tones and melancholic guitar melodies, the single showcases the full range of his emotive vocals and enormous talent. A natural-born storyteller with a kind and open heart, Elliot Porter works with mental health charities and strives to always be inclusive with his music and change people’s lives for the better: “As an artist, I stand for integrity and kindness, in a world that is often anything but that.”

Raised in a musical family in Essex, Elliot Porter grew up watching his father’s and grandfather’s live performances and has been following their footsteps ever since. On the very day of unexpectedly losing his job, the young songwriter bought his first piano and embarked on a musical journey, bouncing between various jobs to support his gigs, and gradually gaining popularity in Brighton through his successful busking tours in the area. Determined to keep on telling stories of ordinary people and everyday life, Elliot Porter is preparing to release his best work yet, and spread his message across the music world.

Inspired by the music of Folk and Rock greats such as David Gray, Ryan Adams, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Elliot Porter is looking forward to the long-awaited return to live performances.
